Hi!
I thought I’d start by giving you a little context about where I am in life right now and, more importantly, why this blog exists.
It’s 12:12pm and I’m writing this from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I’ve been here for just over a month, and for the first time since I was 12 years old, I’m not working or studying.
I’ve been given something I haven’t had in years: time.
Time to slow down, think, learn feels like a summer holiday break in Primary School.
Time to ask myself questions I’ve probably been too busy to answer.
What do I actually want to do with my life?
What do I genuinely enjoy?
And what am I only doing because I’ve somehow convinced myself it’s what I should be doing?
Since being here I’ve read Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson (which I’d highly recommend). It was one of those books that had me staring at the wall afterwards thinking, “What the…?”
I’ve also read Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl and The Make-Believe by Hannah Murray (Cassie from Skins). A fairly random combination, but somehow they all challenged me to question the stories I’ve told myself over the years—where they came from, who taught them to me, and whether I even believe them anymore.
The more I’ve written, read and reflected, the more I’ve wanted to strip everything back.
What do I actually like?
Am I choosing things because they genuinely bring me joy?
Or am I choosing them because they’re expected of me?
I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to be the person everyone else needed me to be. The classic people pleaser. Sometimes I think that’s something a lot of women quietly grow up learning, and I’m not sure I want to keep living like that.
This blog is my attempt to figure that out.
It’s somewhere to write about fitness, travel, books, money, mindset, things I’ve tried, things I’ve loved, and probably a few things I’ve changed my mind about.
I was about to say I feel a bit like Carrie Bradshaw…
Except I’m Ellen.
In Buenos Aires.
Recently engaged.
So… not really Carrie at all.
